Composition

Dosage form — solution for injection. Each 1 mL of the product contains dexmedetomidine hydrochloride equivalent to 0.1 mg of dexmedetomidine, as well as excipients: benzyl alcohol, sodium chloride, and water for injection.

Purpose

The product is used in dogs and cats to provide sedation and analgesia during surgical procedures and various clinical examinations, as well as to prevent aggressive behavior in animals. It is recommended for use as premedication before general anesthesia.

Application

The product is administered to dogs intravenously or intramuscularly, and to cats intramuscularly. The dose is selected depending on the required effect, individual characteristics, and breed of the animal. High doses produce a pronounced sedative effect with analgesia, while low doses produce only a sedative effect. Small-breed dogs require a higher dose of the product than large-breed dogs. To achieve sedation and analgesia, Dekesitaya 0.1 mg/mL is used at the following doses: – dogs — 0.5–4.0 mL/10 kg body weight; – cats — 0.5 mL/kg body weight. Doses for premedication and use during anesthesia are selected according to the instructions for use.

Contraindications

The product must not be used in dogs younger than 4 months of age or in cats younger than 3 months of age. Do not use in animals with individual hypersensitivity to the components of the product, severe systemic diseases, heart failure, impaired liver or kidney function, or in pregnant or lactating females. The product should not be used in emaciated, weakened animals or animals in a state of shock.

Features

Dekesitaya belongs to the group of sedative medicinal products. Dexmedetomidine is a selective alpha-2 adrenoceptor agonist. Under the action of the product, animals develop central nervous system depression and an increased pain threshold. The product has a dose-dependent effect: low doses provide a sedative effect, while high doses produce a pronounced sedative effect and analgesia. After administration, animals should be kept warm and at a constant temperature both during the procedure and during the recovery of consciousness. It is recommended not to feed the animal for 12 hours before administering the product; water intake is not restricted. After administering the product, the animal should not be given food or water until it is able to swallow.

Shelf life

The shelf life of the medicinal product, when storage conditions are observed, is 3 years from the date of manufacture. After opening the vial, the product may be stored for no more than 90 days, provided aseptic conditions and storage conditions are observed. After mixing in one syringe with ketamine and/or butorphanol, the shelf life is no more than 2 hours. Store at a temperature from +2 °C to +25 °C in a place protected from direct sunlight, away from food and feed, and out of reach of children.
